Tell Me Cosplay #66,5 : J Cosplay

It is with joy and undisguised happiness I am pleased to present again the sublime J Cosplay. The beautiful cosplayer today responds to your questions.

You are a wonderful artist, have you ever thought about doing modeling?

Thank you! I have wanted to get into modeling outside of cosplay to show off a more natural look, but cosplay is fine for now.

Do you know France? Have you ever come? Would you like to come to a convention in France?

I've never been to France but I hope to travel there in the future! Attending a convention in France sounds like a dream! I would love to experience a convention in another country.

What is the image of cosplay in the US? In France it is often fun? And jealousy between artists is important.

Cosplay is definitely for fun! Of course there are a range of views from very serious to carefree. Jealousy is definitely more for the serious cosplayers. But it is good to take that jealousy and turn it into motivation to better yourself and your cosplays.

Do you have any models in this environment?

I have a few cosplay role models that I enjoy seeing all of their cosplays and progress. I always learn from them and am inspired by their hard work and devotion.

What are your sources of inspiration? Comics? Manga? TV series? Movies?

My main sources of inspiration are definitely video games and anime. I've never been much into comics but it’s not out of the question! TV, comics, and movies are definitely not off limits. If I see a character I like, ill research it and add it to my list.

Did you get fixed limits?

I’m assuming you mean fixed limits as in how many cosplays I make per year. For the new year, I will usually have a list of cosplays that I MUST make. Then I will add on smaller cosplays depending on friends or new characters that come up that I fall in love with. Of course I make sure to allot time to make them depending on their difficulty.

Your character Bison / Cammy is sublime! You have amazing legs! Where does your passion for this character?

Thank you so much! I've always loved Cammy as a character, mainly because I fall in love with most blonde badass female characters. And with my physique, I’ve always had big thighs and butt. Cammy is the perfect character to be able to use my assets to perfectly portray the character without being over sexualized.

You have cosplays that you're ashamed today?

Definitely! My very first Cammy cosplay was awful! I had just started hand making everything. The leotard didn’t flatter my body and I used my real hair instead of a wig. Looking back on those pictures, it's so embarrassing!! But we have to start from somewhere. I definitely learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. Being able to look back and see my progress is a definite motivation boost.

What can you give me to get into cosplay? I'm afraid to go for it, afraid of what other people, fear of evil prejudices because of my forms, afraid to be told that I only trying to show my body. People can be so mean sometimes.

That is true. People are going to be mean at some point and you just have to expect it and ignore the negative comments. If there is a character you love that you want to cosplay, DO IT. Nothing should stop you! There will be more positive comments than negative so you shouldn’t dwell on the small talk there are professional cosplayers that are known around the world and still get loads of negative stuff from people! So regardless of how good you are, there are always going to be people trying to bring you down, be confident in yourself and your cosplay! I as I said in the previous question, we have to start somewhere. The beginning will be rocky and it won’t be perfect. Don’t get discouraged! Research and learn how you can better your skills and improve. Once you get through the tough stuff, the rest is a lot easier

Do you plan to cosplay for a long time?

I hope to cosplay for the rest of my life! I don’t plan to be as serious about cosplaying but I want to continue to attend conventions and be able to see them grow and transform as I do. Also, I think it would be cool to be able to cosplay older characters when I am old in age.

Tell Me Cosplay #66,5 : J Cosplay

Cosplay taught you things about yourself?

Cosplay definitely taught me a lot about self confidence. I cosplay a lot of strong female characters, so when in cosplay I tend to adopt some of their strong personality. You gain the confidence to walk around in your cosplays without fear of what others think. Taking pride in your hard work and seeing it being appreciated by people wanting to take pictures is definitely a confidence boost and helps motivate me to keep going. Walking around with your butt cheeks out is not an easy thing for just anyone to go out and do!

Have you already started your friends or dear?

I have actually helped a lot of my friends get into cosplay. I get many people coming to me for advice and i am more than happy to help them and be a part of their cosplay journey! I also like to introduce and explain the cosplay world to a lot of people that are unfamiliar with it. It is nice to give clarity to non con-goers who may have questions about what conventions and cosplay are.

Tell Me Cosplay #66,5 : J Cosplay

What is the best definition of the cosplay for you?

Cosplay for me is a PASSION. The thrill I get from hand making my costumes and props from nothing and having people appreciate my hard work is a feeling I can not describe. This is a hobby I love and enjoy doing and it means a lot more to me than simply dressing up. It is a way of life and i meet so many amazing people I wouldn’t have met if cosplay was not a part of my life.

What are the things to avoid when practicing cosplay?

Avoid being rude! Choose your words wisely, what you think is constructive criticism might come off as offensive and hurtful to someone. Also, work to bring a positive image to the cosplay and convention community! If you see a con-goer doing something they shouldn't be, TELL SOMEONE. Don’t be afraid to speak up! Limiting the negative light on an already misunderstood community helps make us looks better!

Have you ever been interviewed before? What did you think of receiving the request of a French blog?

I've had brief interviews at conventions, but nothing too big. Getting a request from a French blog was unexpected! It might not be much but the thought of people in another country admiring my work is so exciting!

Tell Me Cosplay #66,5 : J Cosplay

What can we wish you for the future?

I wish for you guys to continue to follow my cosplay and see me grow as a cosplayer. I hope to eventually take requests from fans for characters they'd like to see me cosplay. So if you have someone you'd love to see done, let me know!

A final word to the readers?

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I appreciate your loving support and kind words so much! Your interest in my cosplay is a big part of what pushes me to be better. I dream of meeting some of you guys one day at a convention and wish you all the best in your own cosplay endeavors
